The real world is 3 dimensional, but so much of what we see are 2 dimensional representations on screens or paper. Creating 3 dimensional views of products makes them more believable, and gives them a certain flair. Sometimes we need to see a product that doesn't exist yet, or see a version that could be. Sometimes we want to see something that is completely imaginary. The more realistic the view, the more viewers will believe it.
Creating your product shot as a 3D model is often more flexible than a true photograph. Digital models can be manipulated easily, rather than having to recreate a complicated photo set up. Colors, lighting, angle of view, and even environments are easily swapped, not to mention the possibilities of animation.
